We are delighted to welcome Professor John Hickman to our Board of Trustees. John joins us as our Scientific Trustee, bringing with him a wealth of experience with which to guide our charity. 

John was the ICI Professor of Molecular Pharmacology at the University of Manchester. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Cancer Research London, he held University posts in Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester and as a visiting scientist at Yale University.

He was the lead pharmacologist for the discovery of the drug Temozolomide, used to treat brain cancers. 

John moved to Paris in 2000 to direct cancer drug discovery at Servier. He retired in 2010 and then coordinated a European Union Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) consortium.

From 2016 – 2022, John was Chair of our Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). In 2022, he hosted the first of a series of international childhood cancer research symposiums for the charity. 

John will be an invaluable addition to our Board. All our Trustees play an important part in helping us reach our goals and setting the charity’s strategic vision. In turn we hugely value their support and work with all our Trustees to shape their role around their particular skills and expertise.
